Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. She was made as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell is a former panelist and anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled together with President Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss topics such as and the Iran Contra controversy.
