Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay, born August 24, 1972, born within Long Beach California. DuVernay was raised by her Aunt Denise She encouraged DuVernay to be creative and attracted by art. She was a night nurse to allow her aunt time that she needed in her day to indulge in the arts, literature and theater. DuVernay was brought to the movie West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay's dad recalled the Civil Rights marches that took place over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the local town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay was able to use the summers she spent there to inspire her future film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the year 1990, DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. She enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles to obtain degrees in English in addition to African American Studies. DuVernay began producing content for broadcast journalism while she was still at school. She began working as an intern at CBS News during the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay was assigned to observe the house of one of the members of the jury, and then examine their junk. Her work left her dissatisfied with journalism so she decided to pursue a career in the public relations sector. DuVernay was brought on straight after college, as an assistant publicist in a small studio. She was promoted to the position and set up her own company for public relations called The DuVernay Agency in 1999. Her company launched a range of lifestyle and promotion networks such as Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
